"The double headed eagle was a symbol adopted by Russian tsars in the 15th century, the double-headed eagle represents Russian statehood. In the 19th century, urban culture began to influence textile art in villages. Samovars and double-headed eagles assumed a place of honor in traditional scenes depicting the ancient goddess of fertility and the Tree of Life."

'Embroidered on the ritual towels of Vologda and other regions, roosters were the harbingers of new life for newlyweds.Images of pigeons, peacocks and other birds, depicted in pairs facing each other, were also considered auspicious and frequently featured on wedding embroidery.
